A Brief Guide to Make Your Home Look More Modern

Some years have gone by since you've last changed your home's decor? Feel in desperate need of a breath of fresh air inside your house? Then it's time to give your home a little tender loving care. What's that? You don't have the money and yet you want to modernize it up a bit? No worries! Here are a few tips on how to make your home look more modern without breaking the bank.

Tweak the Color Scheme

For some reason, older homes have a darker landscape. Whether it’s the colors on the walls or the paneling in the background, older homes just seem to have a darker palette. Well, you can definitely make your home have a look and feel of being more modern by changing up the color scheme.

If you are feeling bold, you can choose to paint the backdrop of your home or even just one particular room with a bright white. Have no fear, white comes in almost as many shades as the rainbow and more. You can choose from snow whites to bright whites to off-whites. If you’re not a fan of white, you can choose a neutral beige with just as many colors in the color scheme.

Renovate the Furnishings

When it comes to making your home more modern, the furnishing play an important role. If you’re not able to do an entire remodel, then some new furniture will do the trick. If you’re not looking to buy entire rooms full of furniture, then you can certainly pick one piece and turn it into a focal point. Whether it’s a new sofa or a small piano, new furnishings will make a room more modern. Remember, though - it's more about the details than about loads and loads of furniture. So, with that in mind, it's better to pick several smaller pieces that feel unique than lots of bigger ones without personality.

Get some throw Rugs

For some reason, throw rugs have a charming way of making a room more modern. They brighten up the area and decorate the space in a more up-to-date way. The nice thing about throw rugs is that you can change them up any time you want and use them to add a splash of color to an ordinary space.

Play with Contrast

Block combinations of color or even black and white checkerboard patterns in a room will make it look more modern in an instant. Whether you add furniture or throw pillows to your space, black and white color blocked elements will make it more modern instantly. Group them together to create rhythm and contrast and be sure to light them in the most flattering way to make them stand up. Of course, don't overdo it a- little splashes are always better than big strokes.

Go Art Deco

One of the best ways to change up the look of any room is by the art work and accessories you have. Change your art work – or if you don’t have any – add art work that is modern and contemporary to your space. Don’t forget to play with a mix of patterns and styles. For example, you could mix art work from other countries, as well. You can buy crazy picture frames for your favorite photos, hang a single (but huge) painting with a modern design or you can create some sort of play with various little ones. Remember, remember - it's all about the details!

As you can see, you don't have to tear down walls or install new windows to make your home more modern. Just play around with what you can get, add a fresh coat of paint and get rid of those old objects you have laying around. You can do this!
