Should You Add A New Bathroom To Your Home?

Posted November 10, 2020 by Gabriel Posternak

An extra bathroom makes a nice addition to your home. However, before you go out and start shopping away, it’s important to take a look at the cost as compared to the value. If you are reselling your home, that’s a great way to get a bang for your buck and if you’re planning on staying, then why not consider doing it for yourself? So, that leaves the question – should you add a new bathroom to your home? Here are a few good reasons why you should.

Increase Your Home’s Value

Bathrooms and kitchens are the biggest sellers for any home. Regardless of whether or not you are moving or staying, it’s never a bad idea to add a new bathroom to your home. You could consider adding a full bath or even a half bath. Either way you are undoubtedly increasing the value of your home.

Should You go Full or Half?

Even a half bath adds value to your home. More importantly, though, it might just add convenience for you and your family. You may spend a lot of time down in the laundry room and it’s inconvenient at best to run up the stairs all the time to use the facilities. Even if you add a half bath with only a commode and a sink, you add value. However, if you add a shower stall, then you are making a smart move.

Having One Up on Your Neighbors

If your home is going up for sale or even if it’s not, having an extra bathroom will make your home more saleable and more valuable. If most of the homes in the neighborhood have 2 baths and now yours has 2.5 or even better, 3, you have a clear advantage, and your home will be more desirable both personally and professionally.

A Pre-Existing Bathroom

If you have a pre-existing extra bathroom that does not have a shower or a tub, you might want to consider expanding that one. A shower or a tub adds convenience, comfort, and peace of mind when everyone has to get ready at the same time, plus adds extra value to your home.

And What About The Cost?

A great place to look after you’ve considered the extra value and extra comfort an additional bathroom will provide is at the cost. Will you get a return on your investment? If you are planning on staying for five years, then the answer is yes. And, if you are planning on selling, you still stand an excellent chance of getting more on the resale than you’d expected.

A second bathroom is a great investment if you have the money and the time. If you're considering a remodel and want some extra comfot, then it may just be time to get that new bathroom project up and running.
