Green Remodeling: 10 Ideas to Make your Bathroom Eco-Friendly

Wouldn't it be nice if you could wave a magic wand and your entire home could become eco-friendly and energy efficient? Well, magic is not necessary if you take one room at a time. If you are doing a remodel, even better. If not, there are still ways to make one room more energy efficient than another.

Let’s take the bathroom for example. There are ways to convert your already existing bathroom or do a remodel that will turn your bathroom into a green bathroom that is also an eco-friendly bathroom.

1. Make Green Choices

For some strange reason or another, the bathroom seems to be the smallest room in the house. However, you can make the most of your space by using sustainable materials. Cork and re-purposed flooring, recycled countertops that are made from glass or even compressed paper and low flow shower heads all constitute greener choices.

2. Make Tough Choices

When it comes to going green in your eco-friendly bathroom, it is necessary to make tough choices. Now that does not mean that you have to hem and haw about certain decisions, it means that you have to choose sturdy and durable materials. For example, re-purposed wood or ceramic tile can withstand the elements as well as stainless steel.

3. Pay Attention to Mold and Mildew

When it comes to mold and mildew, if you are fortunate enough to be doing a bathroom remodel, then you may wish to seek options that keep mold and mildew at bay. When it comes to saving money and energy, seek to repair and replace anything that would cause leaks either openly or under the floor. Mold and mildew can cause serious damage to your home and to your health.

4. Seek to Save

For your green remodeling bathroom project, you will want to seek to save as much water and energy as you can. Think about installing low flow shower-heads and toilets and possibly use an aerator for your faucets, as well.
